It’s probably time I posted this somewhere. 
This is a glass hand drum (a djembe) that I’ve wanted to make for a long time. It’s two feet tall and one foot in diameter. The glass body was gaffed by the amazing glassblower Pablo Soto. He and his team (many awesome people from his Penland Fall 2012 concentration class) shaped the piece after setting up the bubble for me to do the surface decoration.
The drum head is buffalo rawhide tensioned using steel rings and paracord. It sounds amazing.
